An exhibition bringing together photography and children's interpretations, inspired by the total solar eclipse of 12 August.
This exhibition brings together the selected works from the photography competition One Eclipse, a Thousand Perspectives and the drawing competition Where’s the Sun?, organised by Pamplona Planetarium to mark the total solar eclipse of 12 August 2026. On the one hand, the photographs are the result of an initiative held on 28 and 29 April, when the Sun followed the same path across the sky that it will trace during the eclipse. This rehearsal enabled participants to identify the best viewing location, experiment with composition and prepare to capture one of the most extraordinary astronomical phenomena we are likely to witness in the coming decades. On the other hand, the drawings created by children aged 3 to 13 offer a more creative and imaginative perspective on the eclipse, revealing how they interpret it and how they hope to experience it.
Together, the photographs and drawings offer complementary perspectives on the same event, bringing together observation and imagination, preparation and anticipation beneath the captivating shadow of totality.

Promoting interest in STEAM careers is a fundamental part of the Planetarium’s work, and the Research Baccalaureate is one of the educational programmes it runs. This academic year, students have developed six projects as part of a nationwide initiative that will see 20 weather balloons launched at locations across the path of totality. Six Research Baccalaureate students, mentored by Pamplona Planetarium, will launch one of these balloons from Sendaviva. During the presentation, each participant will explain what will be sent into the stratosphere, what they will be measuring and why.
Students from Basoko and Plaza de la Cruz secondary schools have taken part in this Research Baccalaureate project, under the guidance of Iñaki Ordóñez, an astrophysicist at Pamplona Planetarium.

When we think of a solar eclipse, our eyes naturally turn to the sky. But its effects can also be seen in the behaviour of living things. The sudden drop in light levels can prompt unusual responses in birds, mammals and even humans, creating a unique opportunity to study how we react to such extraordinary changes in our surroundings. The total solar eclipse on 12 August 2026 will be the focus of a range of scientific research projects. Sendaviva will take part in several nationwide initiatives studying how different animal species respond to the eclipse, helping to gather valuable data for researchers. The session will explore these and other initiatives developed in collaboration with universities, research centres and scientific organisations. It will also look at other projects involving Pamplona Planetarium, including weather balloon launches and networks of photometers used to study the night sky. Together, they demonstrate how astronomy, biodiversity, psychology and technology can work hand in hand to advance our understanding and bring science closer to society.

At first glance, an eclipse and the study of distant galaxies might seem to have nothing in common. One takes place close to home, in the skies above us, while the other takes us across almost unimaginable distances. Yet they are connected by the same invisible thread of light and our ability to interpret it. The solar eclipse of 18 August 1868 marked a turning point in the development of spectroscopy. For the first time, astronomers were able to observe the Sun’s outer layers without the glare of the photosphere and detect a previously unknown spectral line that would ultimately lead to the discovery of helium. This discovery showed that light carries information about the chemical composition of celestial objects and paved the way for new instruments and methods, establishing spectroscopy as an essential tool for studying the universe.

Watch the live launch of Pamplona Planetarium's stratospheric weather balloon mission.
Witness the launch of the Weather Balloon Mission, an outreach and citizen science project developed by Pamplona Planetarium in partnership with upper secondary students taking part in the BI+ programme. Discover the scientific instruments carried on board, including the electronics used to record and transmit data, and the sensors that will measure temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure at an altitude of 35,000 metres. During the flight, the balloon will capture 360-degree images of the eclipse as we follow its ascent into the stratosphere in real time, exploring how the atmosphere behaves under extreme conditions.

Between 2026 and 2028, Spain will witness a remarkable astronomical sequence: three solar eclipses in three consecutive years. To mark this unique occasion, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) have created the FOTCIENCIA Eclipses exhibition, inviting visitors to experience these extraordinary events through photography while reflecting on the relationship between cosmic phenomena and life on Earth.
The exhibition explores what happens in the sky during an eclipse, linking these spectacular events with scientific research, knowledge, innovation and technological development. Through striking images of light and shadow, and perspectives that range from the cosmic to the microscopic, it celebrates humanity's enduring curiosity and our desire to understand the universe around us.

Filled with audience participation, humour and wonder, this is a show where the audience does more than watch. They become part of what is about to happen.

"Give Them a Second Life" is part of a public awareness campaign highlighting the importance of reducing waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE).
Produced by the Office for Waste Prevention and Circular Economy (OPREC) in partnership with the public company OREKAN, the exhibition explores what WEEE is, how to recognise it and the valuable materials it can contain (gold, palladium, rare earth elements, etc.). It also explains consumers' rights when buying refurbished electrical and electronic equipment, and shows visitors how to access the Repairers Map using the QR code on one of the exhibition panels if a device needs repairing.
Through an engaging journey following the life cycle of these everyday devices, the exhibition highlights the environmental impact of how they are managed. It shows how responsible disposal supports recycling and helps conserve valuable resources, while poor disposal can have serious environmental consequences.

After the eclipse, the day’s programme will continue with Demodé Quartet, a performing arts company with roots in Pamplona and San Sebastián. They will take to the stage ahead of Janus Lester’s concert. Their show brings together a cappella singing, humour and musical theatre in a performance for all ages. The company has an extensive track record of performing at major venues and cultural events.

The day’s musical programme will come to a close at 10.00 pm with Janus Lester, a project led by Bera musician Jokin Pinatxo, one of the most recognisable voices on the contemporary Basque music scene. At Sendaviva, he will present his second album, Lore, which explores the need to accept darker periods as part of the journey towards growth and renewal. It is an idea that resonates particularly strongly with the symbolism of the eclipse, when light and darkness coexist for a few fleeting moments, giving way to a new perception of our surroundings.
